NFC identification bracelets for trail running and hiking

Before taking an NFC identification bracelet on a route, check the information it opens and how it works with the phones available to you. Use the following checklist alongside the instructions for your particular model.

1. Check the fit with your equipment

Try the bracelet with your watch, gloves and clothing before a longer outing. Check the fastening and size against the product description. Confirm the model's care instructions and stated water resistance before exposing it to rain, sweat or immersion.

2. Review the information you choose to share

Check that the listed contact details are current and that the people concerned know they are listed. Read the bracelet as a visitor would and review exactly what is displayed. NFC is a way to read information; it does not by itself restrict who can view it.

3. Check which reading method your model includes

Bracelets from the current production batch have one NFC chip linking to the web profile. Opening the profile requires a compatible NFC phone and an internet connection. These units do not include a second chip for storing personal information for offline reading.

Phone support and the steps for opening the information vary. Read the NFC compatibility guide and test your setup before setting out.

4. Check event requirements separately

For an organised race or group hike, consult the organiser's equipment and identification requirements. Do not assume that an NFC bracelet replaces a required document, race identifier or item of equipment. Ask the organiser if a requirement is unclear.

5. Recheck after changes

Update the information in the web profile following the supplied instructions, then open it through the bracelet to check the result. The chip keeps its link to the profile.
